Jack the Ripper

"Describe law and order in London in the late nineteenth century."

You are writing about the period of the Jack the Ripper murders. What was policing like and what did people think of the police? How were crimes punished and how effective was this? What was happening to the crime rate and why? How were attitudes to crime and criminals changing? What were the links between crime and the conditions in which people were living?

How to plan your answer.

1. Decide what your main point is going to be. This will be your conclusion.
2. Decide what the topic of each paragraph should be. Suggestion: one paragraph each on

living conditions

crime

3. Decide the order of your paragraphs.

4. Make a plan.

5. Leave a space for your introduction and write out your paragraphs and conclusion.

6. Write your introduction.
